Industrial models can be categorized in various ways, including by application area, modeling method, and complexity. The main types include:

 

1. Mathematical Models

Mathematical models are the most fundamental type of industrial model. They describe the behavior of a system through a set of equations and variables. These models are characterized by their clear structure and ease of understanding, and are widely used in production scheduling, logistics optimization, and energy management. For example, linear programming models can help companies develop excellent production plans with limited resources.

 

2. Physical Models

Physical models are typically built using physical laws or experimental data. They can be two-dimensional or three-dimensional physical models, or virtual digital simulations. For example, scaled-down models in wind tunnel tests are used to study the aerodynamic performance of aircraft or automobiles. Digital physical models are implemented through computer simulations and can simulate complex phenomena such as fluid dynamics and heat conduction.

 

3. Statistical Models

Statistical models analyze patterns in data to establish predictive or classification models, used for quality control, fault prediction, etc. For example, fault prediction models can be built using sensor data collected during the production process to identify potential equipment problems in advance.

 

4. Hybrid Models

In many practical applications, different types of models are often combined to form hybrid models, in order to fully utilize their respective advantages. For example, the optimization capabilities of mathematical models are combined with the realistic reflecting capabilities of physical models for simulating complex systems.
